Following the damage to the steering yesterday morning, the skipper of Safran, Morgan Lagravière has confirmed he is retiring from the Vendée Globe, in agreement with his team and partner.

British skipper Alex Thomson yesterday completed the fastest ever passage from the Vendée Globe start line to the Cape of Good Hope in the race’s 27-year history. Thomson’s Hugo Boss passed the famous milestone on the tip of South Africa at 1100 UTC in seventeen days, 22 hours and 58 minutes since beginning the epic solo round the world race from Les Sables d’Olonne in France.

French sailor Armel Le Cléac’h pulled back 30 nautical miles on Vendée Globe leader Alex Thomson overnight to sit less than 40nm off the top spot as the pair continue their dual into the Indian Ocean.
